Our Story
PiXieS first opened its doors in 1996, founded by Marina.
“After working in the childcare sector in my hometown of Exeter, I realised there was a wonderful opportunity not only to provide high-quality care, but also to support children through those vital early learning experiences. I set out to find the perfect environment for my own nursery and soon discovered a beautiful building in the heart of Locks Heath that was being used as a toy museum. I instantly fell in love with its warm, homely feel and knew it was the perfect place to begin my dream.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to work with a loyal and dedicated team who continue to uphold the PiXieS ethos. As I look ahead to retirement, my hope is to further support children with additional needs, offering them rich, meaningful experiences within the setting.”
PiXieS operates across four rooms — Babies, 2–3s, Preschool and Sessional Preschool. We also run our very own PB’s School’s Out Club, offering breakfast club, after-school care, and holiday club for school-aged children up to eight years old.
We are open Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 6:30pm, for 51 weeks of the year (closed on bank holidays and over Christmas).
Our spacious garden has been carefully landscaped to create an enchanting outdoor environment for all age groups to enjoy. Recent developments include a mud kitchen, growing area, and a range of exciting activities designed to support all areas of children’s development.
We follow a rigorous recruitment and vetting process to ensure all staff are suitable to work with children. Our setting is committed to ongoing training so that all practitioners remain fully aware of health and safety procedures and safeguarding responsibilities. We also have a designated Safeguarding Officer who is fully trained in this role.
We are supported by a dedicated Area Manager who oversees the running of both nurseries. She is a long-standing member of the team, having progressed through a variety of roles at PiXieS — and is also a busy working mum.
