Our Kitchen at Woolston is headed by our cook Julie.
Here at PiXieS, we place great value on the food we provide for our children. We strongly believe in the importance of a well-balanced, nutritious diet and never underestimate the role that healthy, delicious food plays in children’s growth and development.
You will often walk into the nursery to the comforting smell of the day’s dinner or tea bubbling away in the kitchen. Our meals are so popular that many parents have asked for our recipes — although when they try to recreate a “PiXieS dinner” at home, children are often heard saying, “But it’s not like the one we have at PiXieS!” Some parents even joke that they tell their children they order directly from the PiXieS cook!
All dietary requirements are carefully recorded and monitored on a daily basis. We cater for a wide range of needs including medical diets, religious requirements, vegetarian and vegan meals. Our cook works hard to replicate meals wherever possible so that no child feels different from their peers.
Every meal is freshly prepared and cooked on site using high-quality ingredients to ensure your child receives all the goodness they need. We cook everything from scratch and do not use processed foods — dishes such as lasagne, sausage casserole and quiche all begin with raw ingredients. The only tins you will find in our kitchen are essentials such as tinned tomatoes and baked beans.
We source our meat from a reputable local butcher, including beef mince, pork chipolatas, roast joints and diced lamb, ensuring quality and freshness in every meal we serve.
Our menu operates on a four-week rotating cycle, offering a wide variety of meals to ensure children experience different tastes and textures. We aim to ensure that even children who attend only one or two sessions a week enjoy a varied menu. Afternoon tea has been developed with input from the children themselves, and our all-time favourite remains the much-loved cheese and Marmite bake — a true PiXieS classic!
We also provide a separate baby menu, carefully designed to suit the tastes and developmental needs of our youngest children.
We are proud to say that our kitchen has recieved the highest food hygiene rating of 5.
