History
PiXieS opened it’s doors in 1996 by the owner Marina in our Locks Heath setting. “After working in the childcare sector in Exeter my home town, I soon realised that this was an opportunity to provide quality care to young children but more importantly supporting children in those vital early learning experiences. I set out to find the perfect environment to set up my very own nursery. I then came across a beautiful building in the heart of Locks Heath which was being used as a toy museum. I fell in love with the homely feel to the building and knew this would be the right place to start my dream.
Over the years I have been lucky enough to have continued support from long standing staff who in my retirement will continue in the PiXieS ethos. In the, meantime I continue to dream of further supporting children with additional needs by offering them childhood experiences within the setting.”
Our homely nursery is situated on the outskirts of Woolston close to Southampton City centre, with main routes for public transport. Established in 2000, we cater for children from 3 months to 5 years. We operate from 3 rooms – babies, 2-3’s, and preschool.
We are open Monday – Friday, 7:30 – 18:00, 51 weeks of the year except bank holidays and Christmas.
We have a large garden which has been significantly landscaped to provide an enchanting outside area for all age groups to enjoy. Following recent developments this now includes a mud kitchen, growing area, and a variety of enticing activities to encourage all areas of the children’s development.
We have a rigorous recruitment policy to ensure all staff are vetted and are suitable to work with children. Our settings are committed to ongoing training to ensure all practioners are aware of health and safety policies and safeguarding matters. (We have a designated Safeguarding officer who is fully trained in this area.)
We have a dedicated area manger who over sees the running of both nurseries. She is a long standing member of staff who has gone through all the ranks here at pixies and is a working mummy too.
