Illnesses & Medication
Illness and Infection
If your child is unwell at home, we kindly ask that they are not brought into nursery. As parents and carers, you know your child best and are the best judges of whether they are well enough to manage a full nursery session.
If a child becomes unwell while at nursery, we will do everything possible to comfort them and, where appropriate, provide basic care. If we feel your child is too unwell to remain at nursery, we will contact you and ask that they are collected as soon as possible.
We have a full Illness and Infection Policy, which is available to download. This policy outlines exclusion periods and incubation times for common childhood illnesses to help protect the health and wellbeing of all children and staff.
Medicines
Only prescribed medication that has been clearly recorded and signed in by a parent or carer will be administered during nursery hours on a regular basis.
Non-prescription medication, such as pain relief, fever reducers or teething gel, may be administered only with prior written consent from a parent or carer and only when there is a clear medical reason. The reason for administration and clear instructions must be provided, for example: to be given if temperature exceeds 38.5°C / 101°F.
If your child requires medication to control a high temperature, this will only be administered for a maximum of 24 hours. After this time, we will request that medical advice is sought before any further medication is given.
We are unable to administer any medication containing aspirin, unless it has been specifically prescribed for your child by a doctor.
