History
PiXieS first opened its doors in 1996 at our Locks Heath setting, founded by owner Marina.
“After working in the childcare sector in my hometown of Exeter, I realised there was a real opportunity not only to provide high-quality care for young children, but more importantly to support them through those vital early learning experiences. I set out to find the perfect environment to open my very own nursery and soon discovered a beautiful building in the heart of Locks Heath that was being used as a toy museum. I instantly fell in love with the homely feel of the building and knew it was the perfect place to begin my dream.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to receive continued support from long-standing staff who will carry forward the PiXieS ethos as I move towards retirement. In the meantime, I continue to dream of further supporting children with additional needs by offering them rich and meaningful childhood experiences within the setting.”
Our homely nursery is situated on the outskirts of Woolston, close to Southampton city centre, with easy access to main public transport routes. Established in 2000, we care for children aged from 3 months to 5 years and operate across three rooms: Babies, 2–3s and Preschool.
We are open Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:30pm, for 51 weeks of the year, closing only on bank holidays and over Christmas.
Our large garden has been thoughtfully landscaped to create an enchanting outdoor environment for all age groups. Recent developments include a mud kitchen, growing area and a range of exciting activities designed to support all areas of children’s development.
We follow a rigorous recruitment process to ensure all staff are fully vetted and suitable to work with children. Our setting is committed to ongoing training so that all practitioners remain up to date with health and safety procedures and safeguarding responsibilities. We also have a designated Safeguarding Officer who is fully trained in this role.
We are supported by a dedicated Area Manager who oversees the running of both nurseries. She is a long-standing member of the PiXieS team, having worked her way through the ranks — and is also a busy working mum herself.
