Everything we do here at PiXieS is initiated by the children. We support the Early Years Foundation Stage’s philosophy of children learning more when they are doing something they enjoy. Key skills such as listening, focusing and working together are being developed along with their progress in creativity, knowledge and understanding of the world, early communication, language, literacy, personal social and emotional and problem solving and reasoning.

We surround every child with toys, musical instruments, creative materials, games and equipment designed to stimulate and stretch their imagination. We then plan the children's learning objectives through play in line with the knowledge of what each child's next steps need to be. All this is achieved through a play based environment, which will encourage them to learn whilst they play.

Learning outcomes are developed through the following areas:-

  • Personal, social and emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and literacy
  • Problem solving, numeracy and reasoning
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Here at PiXieS we believe the guidance and encouragement we give to each child does not begin and end with the main activity of the session. Our qualified staff allows us to encourage the children to develop and learn as they play throughout the day, we call this our continuous curriculum. We begin our planning by looking at the children’s interests and how we can provide activities to best develop them.

As the children play and learn the staff observe what the children are doing, this is then logged into their Record of development summary which gives everyone an idea of where their learning is pitched. Other achievements and special times are recorded in their learning journeys and memory books. We actively encourage parents to share their achievements from home and record them on our parent sharing boards throughout the setting.
